People would eventually get fed up if sweet water were to come out of their taps ….

People would eventually get fed up if sweet water
were to come out of their taps, even if it was only for a day.
If you ask them why, they will tell you they prefer plain
water. True value of something is not realized until it is no
longer available.
People go around looking for Coca-Cola
and Fanta. Why do you not figure out what your necessities
are? Would this body of yours complain if it got fresh air to
breath, pure water to drink and some simple food to eat at
night? It would not. Therefore decide on the basic necessities
for the body. People instead look for a specific flavor of ice
cream. Kabir Shahib said:
“No one is your enemy; your enemy is your
unnecessary materialism…
“Rid yourself of all your needs for unnecessary
things, and then you are free to roam about.”
                                          — Dadashri : )

Simplicity

You think you must have this or that and then you can be happy. But no matter how many of your desires are satisfied, you never will find happiness through them. The more you have, the more you want. Learn to live simply. Lord Krishna said: “His mind is full with contentment whose desires ever flow inward. That man is like a changeless ocean which is kept brimful with constantly entering waters. He is not a muni who bores holes of desires in his reservoir of peace and lets the waters escape.”

IS GETTING RESPECT FROM OTHERS A NECESSITY FOR LIVING?

The whole world is sunk in the ocean of accumulation
and hoarding of unnecessary materialistic things. God has no objection to your accumulation of things that are necessary for life. One should decide on his necessities in life. What are the basic necessities for this body? First and foremost is air, and this is available every second, free of cost. Then one needs water and food. The fire of hunger can be doused with simple food, but nowadays people want gourmet food. Clothing and shelter fall under secondary requirements.
Is getting respect from others a necessity for living? People go around searching for respect and become completely veiled in the illusion of life.
                                   —-DADASHRI : )

Overcoming Temptation
The old orthodox way is to deny temptation, to suppress it. But you must learn to control temptation. It is not a sin to be tempted. Even though you are boiling with temptation, you are not evil; but if you yield to that temptation you are caught temporarily by the power of evil. You must erect about yourself protecting parapets of wisdom. There is no stronger force that you can employ against temptation than wisdom. Complete understanding will bring you to the point where nothing can tempt you to actions that promise pleasure but in the end will only hurt you.

You are born in a family of fortunate ones : )

It is suffering when you do not get food to eat or when you do not get to use the toilet. The local authorities have made toilets available in every home. Otherwise in the old days you had to carry some water in a pot into the forest to relieve yourself. Now you have bathrooms with toilets in your own bedrooms! Even the landlords and the mighty rulers of the past did not enjoy such facilities. They too had to go to the forest. Even they had to run to the forest when they had diarrhea! People unnecessarily go around complaining about trivial things in
life. Why are they complaining unnecessarily?
Wrong understanding causes suffering. There is no such
thing as suffering if the right understanding is applied. If
there is a little infection in your foot, you have to look around to see if anyone else has the same kind of suffering. If you look in a hospital you will realize what suffering is, while here you suffer unnecessarily with a little infection. You have to investigate all this, do not you? What happens if you suffer without looking into all the facts? How can there be any suffering for people who have so much merit karmas like yourself?
You are born in a family of punyasadis (fortunate ones), where you get your meal with very little effort.

Overcoming Temptation

How wonderful are your eyes? : )

How wonderful are your eyes? Could you find such
eyes even if you paid millions of dollars? No, you could not. Some people complain even when they have a million dollars. They do not realize the worth of all the precious things that nature has given them. A person can be content if he simply learned to value just his eyes.

Overcoming Temptation

Desires are the most unrelenting enemies of man; he cannot appease them. Have only one desire: to know God. Satisfying the sensory desires cannot satisfy you, because you are not the senses. They are only your servants, not your Self.

HAPPY DIWALI:What are the rules of Lakshmiji?

What are the rules of Lakshmiji?
Questioner: What are Goddess
Lakshmiji’s—the Goddess of wealth—rules?

Dadashri: Her rules are that one cannot
make or take money dishonestly. How
can Lakshmiji be pleased with you if you violate
this rule? Then it matters little whether you
worship Goddess Lakshmiji to no end. It is of
no consequence when you perform the ritual
of washing coins on Lakshmipujan Day prior
to Diwali! Everyone does that too! Do they
wash coins in England?
Questioner: No Dada, no one washes
money there.

Dadashri: Even then does Lakshmiji
not grace their homes? What is the meaning in
washing coins? Here in India, people wash
them with yogurt also! Everyone washes coins.
When it comes to money, everyone is shrewd;
no one lags behind in doing this. People even
come and ask me, “Did you wash coins today?”
‘We’ ask, “What for?” Whenever
Lakshmiji meets me ‘we’ tell her, “Our home
address is 6, Mamani Poda, Vadodara. You
are welcome there anytime it is convenient for
you. It is your home, so you are welcome.”
This is all ‘we’ say to her; ‘we’ never fail to
show ‘our’ respect. Where money is concerned
‘we’ never say ‘we’ have no need for
money.
You also speak when you go home
tonight that, ‘hey, goddess Lakshmi Devi,
whenever it is convenient for you, grace us
with a visit and leave whenever you please.
However, please come to our home. Please
take care of this home.’
‘This is your home. You are welcome anytime it is
convenient to you. It is our wish that you do
come.’ After speaking this much you are to go
to sleep meditating on ‘Shuddhatma—pure
Soul’.
The value of the right kind of money
In this current era of the time cycle of
Kaliyug if the money is pure and right, even
one rupee that is destined to bind merit karma
will give peace and happiness to everyone;
it creates an atmosphere
whereby everyone in the home will
continue to have positive and religious thoughts.

Life without conflict : )

We have to live together all the time. We fight
with each other and yet we live together.
This is not the way to live life. It is not considered a
family life. If you ask our old ladies how to live life, they
will tell you, ‘Eat and drink in peace, why do you rush
through your meals?’
First you must ascertain your necessities and then all the rest is unnecessary. You must also realize it is the unnecessary things that confuses people and makes them take sleeping pills.
                                       —– Dadashri : )

Balance

Do not confuse understanding with a larger vocabulary. Sacred writings are beneficial in stimulating desire for inward realization, if one stanza at a time is slowly assimilated. Otherwise, continual intellectual study may result in vanity, false satisfaction, and undigested knowledge.

A person, who has all the four necessities of life and yet creates conflict……

A person, who has all the four necessities of life and yet creates conflict, is nothing but a fool. Does he or does he not get food on time? It does not matter whether the food is cooked in oil or not, but at least he gets his food on time, does he not? Does he also not get his cup of tea on time; whether it is once or twice a day, does he not at least get tea or something to drink? Does he not have clothes to wear? Does he not have a roof over his head? He should be thankful for all this, especially on cold winters days! So when people complain, in spite of having these basic four necessities, they should be locked up in prison! : )
                                           —- Dadashri : )

Balance

The material and the spiritual are but two parts of one universe and one truth. By overstressing one part or the other, man fails to achieve the balance necessary for harmonious development….Practice the art of living in this world without losing your inner peace of mind. Follow the path of balance to reach the inner wondrous garden of Self-realization.

There is no happiness in following the ways of the world.

There is no happiness in following the
ways of the world.

Questioner: There are some people
who want what others have. If they see others
with a car, then they want it too.
Dadashri: When does lokasangnya
arise (lokasangnya—to be dictated by societal
influence)? It occurs when one is not satisfied
from within. Until today, I have not found
a single man to give me bliss. Even when I
was young, I did not find a need to keep a
radio. Are these all not live radios walking
around. One is prone to be dictated by the
ways of the world when there is greed within.
The real meaning of satisfaction is samatrushna
equanimity amidst desire.
People will say that happiness lies in
money, but there are some Sadhus—ascetics
—who will not accept money even if you
offered it to them. Even if you give me all the
gold in the world, I would not accept it because
I do not find happiness in money or
wealth at all. Happiness does not lie in money.
If it did then every one will derive happiness
from it. Whereas everyone will experience bliss
derived from the Soul because it is real happiness;
it is eternal happiness. There is so much
anand bliss in the Self that you cannot even
imagine it.

Balance

I will be calmly active, actively calm. I will not become lazy and mentally ossified. Nor will I be overactive, able to earn money but unable to enjoy life. I will meditate regularly to maintain true balance.

Unhappiness is the vitamin of atma—the soul : )

Unhappiness is the vitamin of atma—
the soul : )

You become a beggar of the world if
you build a majestic bungalow and a king of
the world with a small home. This is because
this is all pudgal (the non-Self world). When
pudgal—that which increases and decreases,
rises and falls with intake and output; increases,
the energy and expression of the Self is diminished
and when the pudgal decreases, the
energy and expression of the Self increases.
Therefore, all worldly sorrows are a vitamin
for the soul and worldly comforts are the vitamin
for the body—the pudgal. And yet you
are not taking vitamin for the Self and you are
trying to get rid of the unhappiness.
You are
not taking the vitamin for the soul, are you?
See, how I have become after taking vitamin
for the soul ! If someone were to take away
fifty thousand from me, by fraudulent means,
I would simply keep taking the vitamin of the
soul.

The Level of naturalness (sahajata) for earning money : )

An inner intent to earn more money :

The intent (bhaavna) to earn more money
is raudradhyan (adverse internal meditation that hurts the
person having it and also others around). Intent for earning money means
intent to create shortage of money for others.
That is why the Lord has said, ‘do not have any
intent (occupy yourself) to earn money.’ Do
you ever plan and occupy yourself (contemplate,
dhyan) about taking a shower everyday?
Questioner : No Dada.
Dadashri : Even if you do not do that,
don’t you get a bucket full of water?

Questioner : I do get it.

Dadashri : Just as you get one bucket
of water for your shower without planning,
similarly everybody gets enough money for his
or her need. This is the law. There is no reason
for a person to become occupied with money.
Do you ever think whether you will get
a mattress to sleep on tonight? Whereas here,
one is preoccupied day and night with money,
money and money! How did you find the
stupid guru who has taught you to chase
money all day long? Due to this, people have
lost their home values and health, and have
invited ruin. We now see more people having
high blood pressure and heart attacks.
What the world does is mediated by
worldly knowledge (loksangnya). This worldly
knowledge becomes the leader for one who
has not found the right spiritual teacher. The
world believes that happiness lies in money.
The disease has got in because of this worldly
knowledge. Now, with which knowledge can
this disease be eradicated? The Lord says
that this disease can be eradicated through the
knowledge of the Gnani (gnanisangnya).
That is why I am trying to tell you this;
even without thinking do you not get water for
bathing or a mattress to sleep on or all the
other necessary things? This is your
spontaneous state (sahaj) for your routine
needs. This level of naturalness (sahajata)
needs to be there for money also.

Right Activity

Always perform small as well as important duties with deep attention, remembering that God is guiding and stimulating every worthwhile effort you are making to achieve a noble ambition.
