There is no happiness in following the ways of the world.

There is no happiness in following the
ways of the world.

Questioner: There are some people
who want what others have. If they see others
with a car, then they want it too.
Dadashri: When does lokasangnya
arise (lokasangnya—to be dictated by societal
influence)? It occurs when one is not satisfied
from within. Until today, I have not found
a single man to give me bliss. Even when I
was young, I did not find a need to keep a
radio. Are these all not live radios walking
around. One is prone to be dictated by the
ways of the world when there is greed within.
The real meaning of satisfaction is samatrushna
equanimity amidst desire.
People will say that happiness lies in
money, but there are some Sadhus—ascetics
—who will not accept money even if you
offered it to them. Even if you give me all the
gold in the world, I would not accept it because
I do not find happiness in money or
wealth at all. Happiness does not lie in money.
If it did then every one will derive happiness
from it. Whereas everyone will experience bliss
derived from the Soul because it is real happiness;
it is eternal happiness. There is so much
anand bliss in the Self that you cannot even
imagine it.

Balance

I will be calmly active, actively calm. I will not become lazy and mentally ossified. Nor will I be overactive, able to earn money but unable to enjoy life. I will meditate regularly to maintain true balance.

GOOD STORY : ” Four Wives “

He too, loved his 2nd wife. She is a very considerate person, always patient and in fact is the merchant’s confidante. Whenever the merchant faced some problems, he always turned to his 2nd wife and she would always help him out and tide him through difficult times.

Now, the merchant’s 1st wife is a very loyal partner and has made great contributions in maintaining his wealth and business as well as taking care of the household. However, the merchant did not love the first wife and although she loved him deeply, he hardly took notice of her…

One day, the merchant fell ill. Before long, he knew that he was going to die soon. He thought of his luxurious life and told himself, “Now I have 4 wives with me. But when I die, I’ll be alone. How lonely I’ll be!”

Thus, he asked the 4th wife, “I loved you most, endowed you with the finest clothing and showered great care over you. Now that I’m dying, will you follow me and keep me company?” “No way!” replied the 4th wife and she walked away without another word.

The answer cut like a sharp knife right into the merchant’s heart. The sad merchant then asked the 3rd wife, “I have loved you so much for all my life. Now that I’m dying, will you follow me and keep me company?” “No!” replied the 3rd wife. “Life is so good over here! I’m going to remarry when you die!” The merchant’s heart sank and turned cold.

He then asked the 2nd wife, “I always turned to you for help and you’ve always helped me out. Now I need your help again. When I die, will you follow me and keep me company?” “I’m sorry, I can’t help you out this time!” replied the 2nd wife. “At the very most, I can only send you to your grave.” The answer came like a bolt of thunder and the merchant was devastated.

Then a voice called out : “I’ll leave with you. I’ll follow you no matter where you go.” The merchant looked up and there was his first wife. She was so skinny, almost like she suffered from malnutrition. Greatly grieved, the merchant said, “I should have taken much better care of you while I could have !”

Moral :

Actually, we all have 4 wives in our lives

a. The 4th wife is our body. No matter how much time and effort we lavish in making it look good, it’ll leave us when we die.

b. Our 3rd wife ? Our possessions, status and wealth. When we die, they all go to others.

c. The 2nd wife is our family and friends. No matter how close they had been there for us when we’re alive, the furthest they can stay by us is up to the grave.

d. The 1st wife is in fact our soul, often neglected in our pursuit of material, wealth and sensual pleasure.

Guess what? It is actually the only thing that follows us wherever we go. Perhaps it’s a good idea to cultivate and strengthen it now rather than to wait until we’re on our deathbed to lament.

Perfection

You are punishing the soul by keeping it buried, slumbering in matter life after life, frightened by nightmares of suffering and death. Realize that you are the soul. Remember that the Feeling behind your feeling, the Will behind your will, the Power behind your power, the Wisdom behind your wisdom is the Infinite Lord. Unite the heart’s feeling and the mind’s reason in a perfect balance. In the castle of calmness, again and again cast off identification with earthly titles, and plunge into deep meditation to realize your divine kingship.

Mulla Nasruddin’s art of living : )

Mulla Nasruddin’s art of living was wonderful. His tales were spreading far and wide. People never got tired of talking about him and all these tales became famous. People used to say no one could be as happy as Mulla.

The Sheikh of Damascus was extremely wealthy having all the facilities in the world at his beck and call, even then the Sheikh was not happy. He had declared, “Whoever shows him the path to happiness, I would give him half of my wealth and if someone can make me happy, give me peace of mind, I would give him one thousand golden coins.” Numerous people came to him and showed him the path to happiness.

But after trying them, the Sheikh discarded because those people wanted to earn the prize. Certainly the value of prize was more important to them, than the path to happiness. So, despite wealth, riches and luxuries, he would not get happiness. Someone informed him regarding Mulla Nasruddin. He set out for his village along with a pouch containing one thousand golden coins.

No sooner he entered the village, he met a kind person. He asked him, “brother, where does Mulla Nasruddin live ?” “What you have to do with him?”

Brother, I have heard that he is an extremely wise person, if he shows me path to happiness and peace, then I will give him the prize of one thousand golden coins.”

“Have you brought one thousand golden coins with you ?”

The kind man asked. The Sheikh took out a pouch bound to his waist and showed him, “This is the bag full of golden coins.” Suddenly the kind man snatched the pouch and started running. Screaming “thief, thief” he also chased him. That kind man with pouch of golden coins ran towards the jungle. The village was left far behind. The Sheikh while following was thinking that he had made such a mistake of coming to meet Mulla Nasruddin without his guards. This village seems to be full of thieves, if Mulla is living here then there is no possibility of getting happiness and peace !” He became breathless running constantly after him.

“Oh God, how unhappy I am, I have lost my one thousand golden coins! Oh god, help me to catch that thief!” Meanwhile as if playing hide and seek game in the thick cluster of trees, that thief disappeared somewhere. Tired, helpless, and breathless Sheikh sat down under a tree. Sitting there, he was cursing himself. He was so breathless, that he was unable to speak properly. He was also unable to urge God. “Oh my god, I had come here in search of happiness, and see now, I have lost my happiness and peace of mind, and also lost my golden coins! Oh kind hearted God, please help me!” He spoke so breathlessly in a very humble manner.

Suddenly the pouch of golden coins dropped in to his lap. Looking at it, he became very happy. “Oh kind God, I thank you sincerely.” Suddenly a voice was heard from somewhere, “Sheikh, now do feel peaceful ?” “Yes, Yes, now I feel very peaceful!” “And feel the happiness ?” “Oh yes, my God, now I feel much happier!” He was very happy to find the pouch of golden coins falling from the sky, particularly after so much of running behind it. Suddenly he wondered that who was speaking ? From where did the pouch come ? He looked above and found that it was the same thief who was laughing and asking the questions

No sooner did the Sheikh see him, his feelings changed. Soon he jumped from the tree and told the Sheikh, “Just now you told me that you felt, happiness and peace of mind, so please give me one thousand golden coins, I myself am Mulla Nasruddin.”

The Sheikh was surprised, “What, Mulla also a thief…..!” “Sheikh, you have seen that happiness does not lie in wealth, luxury, riches and amenities. The happiness is the state of mind. You were ready to give away half of your wealth for happiness and peace of mind just few days back, and few moments before you were unhappy of having lost just one thousand golden coins which is a miniscule part of your wealth. You were running behind me as if to save one’s own life to get back those one thousand golden coins, which is a pittance for you, and again you were very happy to receive the wealth and got peace of mind.”

Sheikh realized the truth and with a smile he put the pouch of one thousand golden coins at the feet of the Mulla. Returning the one thousand golden coins Mulla said, “the whole world somehow creates one or the other tension and then feels happy when they become free from it. For example, when your golden coins were snatched away, tension was created in you and when you received it back, the tension was removed and you felt happiness and peace.

What is the point in getting such happiness and peace, which are dependent on one or the other thing. Happiness and unhappiness are just like two sides of a coin. Different from both of them is the condition of joy! It is not dependent on anything. This condition is beyond one’s mind. A person who has felt joy, what would he do with your coins! You keep it with yourself. Joy is inherent in you. You can achieve it by going beyond the mind, witnessing all the events of life through constant awakening.

The Level of naturalness (sahajata) for earning money : )

An inner intent to earn more money :

The intent (bhaavna) to earn more money
is raudradhyan (adverse internal meditation that hurts the
person having it and also others around). Intent for earning money means
intent to create shortage of money for others.
That is why the Lord has said, ‘do not have any
intent (occupy yourself) to earn money.’ Do
you ever plan and occupy yourself (contemplate,
dhyan) about taking a shower everyday?
Questioner : No Dada.
Dadashri : Even if you do not do that,
don’t you get a bucket full of water?

Questioner : I do get it.

Dadashri : Just as you get one bucket
of water for your shower without planning,
similarly everybody gets enough money for his
or her need. This is the law. There is no reason
for a person to become occupied with money.
Do you ever think whether you will get
a mattress to sleep on tonight? Whereas here,
one is preoccupied day and night with money,
money and money! How did you find the
stupid guru who has taught you to chase
money all day long? Due to this, people have
lost their home values and health, and have
invited ruin. We now see more people having
high blood pressure and heart attacks.
What the world does is mediated by
worldly knowledge (loksangnya). This worldly
knowledge becomes the leader for one who
has not found the right spiritual teacher. The
world believes that happiness lies in money.
The disease has got in because of this worldly
knowledge. Now, with which knowledge can
this disease be eradicated? The Lord says
that this disease can be eradicated through the
knowledge of the Gnani (gnanisangnya).
That is why I am trying to tell you this;
even without thinking do you not get water for
bathing or a mattress to sleep on or all the
other necessary things? This is your
spontaneous state (sahaj) for your routine
needs. This level of naturalness (sahajata)
needs to be there for money also.

How can we know what is the proper balance in our lives?

How can we know what is the proper balance in our lives?

The more you meditate, the more balance you’ll have in life. A person who doesn’t meditate can’t understand that, but people who have done meditation understand that the more you meditate the more balance you get. You have worldly obligations, and you blend spirituality with them. You say, “I have to work this much for my living and this much action performed in the world will give me enough food and clothing, enough time for my spiritual practice.” I think that it is on the basis of the spiritual experience that you can balance yourself. It naturally happens. When you throw a log into the water it does not swim – it does not have the power to swim. It floats with the water. So in meditation you throw yourself into that stream of life, it picks you up and you can go with that.

Should money be the goal of life ? —- Dadashri : )

Should money be the goal of life ?

Dadashri: I asked people why they were running
after money so much. Why make money the
goal of life? Money comes on the basis of merit
karma (Punya). They ask, ‘is it not coming
because of intellect?’ I replied, ‘If that was the
case go see how these intellectuals are running
around with hardly any shoes to wear while
their dumb bosses are swimming in money.’
These intellectuals will give you all kinds of
advice, but they themselves are poor. Those
who are simple at heart and do not hurt others
with their intellect have money. This money
comes to them from their merit karmas of this and previous births.
Questioner: With money comes food
and comforts.

Dadashri: Yes, it does not come from
God, and therefore people have lost their love
for God. He has no faith in God. He does not
know God at all. He loves what he sees. The
world loves money, does it not?
The goal is lost and one becomes a beggar
This beggary does not leave. The beggary
for respect, the beggary for fame, the beggary
for sex pleasure, the beggary for
money….beggary, beggary, beggary! Have you
ever seen anyone without beggary ? Finally
one even becomes a beggar for building temples,
and then gets involved in building them. This is
because, not finding anything to occupy himself,
one starts building temples for fame! Wait a
minute, why are you building temples? Is there
a scarcity of temples in India? But here this
person starts collecting money for building
temples. The Lord (Mahavira) has said that the
constructor of the temple will build a temple if
that is in his karma. Why are you getting
involved in this?!

The religion for human beings in India is
not simply for building temples only. Birth in
India is exclusively for liberation. Do all your
work with the goal of attaining liberation in one
more life time. If this is the goal, it will be
attained in 50, 100 or 500 life times to come.
Let go of all other goals. Thereafter, be free to
marry, have children, become a doctor or
whatever, build a bungalow, or whatever you
wish. Stick to this one goal, that having taken
birth in India, I want to attain liberation and
proceed in that direction. This will lead to your
liberation.

Meditation

The more you meditate, the more helpful you can be to others, and the more deeply you will be in tune with God. Selfish people remain spiritually hidebound, but the unselfish expand their consciousness. When you find your omnipresence in meditation, you will find God. If He is pleased with you, all nature will work in harmony with you. Learn to talk to Him with all your soul.

LIFE SOLUTIONS :)

Life Solutions

Dialogue with the Master

guruji

Anandmurti Gurumaa is a contemporary
master who is guiding millions towards
the higher realms of consciousness.
Dialogue presents the illuminating words
of Gurumaa, spoken in response to
questions posed by seekers.

Question: My job is so strenous that I don’t get time to meditate. Moreover, I cannot concentrate or sit steady. I suffer from hypertension; my family is worried as this affects my health. Now the circumstances have become very alarming. I seek your advice. Is meditation, which I am unable to do, the only solution? I surrender to you and seek your blessings. Jaidev

Gurumaa: Jaidev, you need to set your priorities. To survive in this world you need to make money, to accomplish anything, it is the perfect tool. But, when earning takes away all your time and energy and begins to afflict your body, then money is no longer a tool to survive, but becomes a killer.
You need to apply this wisdom: First, how much money is required for sustenance? Second, can it be made through other means? Third, is your schedule affecting your body, mind or family life? Then the important question is: What are you gaining? And why should you even need to seek my help? Why is there a need for me to repeat what you already know? You already know what harm is being inflicted by you on your own life.
Nowadays multinational companies pay very well. But then they suck your blood! They extract their pound of flesh! Some companies even offer oversees trips as rewards. They say, ‘You have worked so hard, as a reward we are sending you on a vacation. You are ecstatic. Wow! When you learn that your vacation is in France, you scream with joy! You are very happy that the company is rewarding you. As you get ready to leave, another file arrives from the boss; you will be in France, so you should meet the associates there and sort out some pending business with them! The person flies to Europe, USA, England or any other exotic place, but everywhere a new message arrives asking him to attend to company work there too.

meditation

Why is there a lack of time only for meditation? The reason: “You do not want to do it”

To establish yourself socially and financially, you miss out on important things in life. You do not even realize the rat race is damaging your life. You have no time to meditate. Do you have time to eat? You do eat! You have time to sleep? Yes, you do! Do you shower? Yes, you do! Do you watch a movie sometime? Yes! Television? Yes! Read the newspaper? Yes! Read a magazine when traveling? Yes!
Eating and bathing, you cannot stop – what you drop is meditation! There are so many other things you do, but never say you have no time for – shopping, movies, television, newspapers, magazines, clubs, friends! So many menial jobs you do. Why is time lacking for meditation alone? Hear the truth, “You do not want to do it.” As long as you do not accept this, you will never bring about a change. Set your priorities! You say many thoughts run through your mind. Well, the job of the brain is to think so that is what it is doing. That is why you can think about this as well. That is why you can write and express your concerns. The job of the eyes is to see, the job of the ears is to hear and the job of the mind is to think.
How can you complain about the natural function of an organ for which it was made? It was made to think, analyse and observe. It is doing it’s job very well. Why complain? You want your mind to stop thinking on demand, but it does not listen to you. You want it to stop, you want to relax, but these thoughts are overpowering.
Your thoughts cannot cease because you have goals to achieve, an image to protect, a boss to please; you have been eyeing a fatter salary package! I do not say you should not earn or hold a job. I do not say you should leave everything and become a recluse. What I do say is: understand what needs to be done when, and learn to prioritize. You have to understand this very well. What is most important to you? You have yourself written that an alarm bell is ringing and signalling for you to stop this nonsense. When you live in constant anxiety and stress, there is a good chance of your brain or heart stopping to work. Cardio-vascular and circulatory diseases are diseases of stressed out people. Your body cannot take so much stress. You are concerned about financial statements, growth charts of your company and your personal bank balance, but have forgotten about the charts of your heart and blood pressure.
The rising levels of your cholesterol, alarming levels of blood pressure; you are not bothered about that. You should be bothered about it. High blood pressure is the biggest killer after cancer and cardiovascular disease. High blood pressure kills thousands of people everyday. But are you really seriously concerned that your blood pressure is rising? Should you not be?

meditation-2

‘Yog Nidra’ will help you de-stress and achieve a multi-level relaxation – muscular, neurological, emotional, mental and intellectual

But the surprising thing is that you are not concerned at all. Even when you are sometimes, your doctor says, ‘No problem, pop a pill and your blood pressure will come down.’ Then you become a slave of the pills. Then you become a slave to your doctor and you end up making some pharmaceutical company very rich. You have to understand that it is your body – respect it. How can you allow this body to go berserk, to get diseased, how can you kill this body?
Life is a very precious thing and no one has ever managed to buy back life from death. No Alexander, no Napoleon Bonaparte, no Hitler – none of these people could buy some bonus time for their life. Could they? They could not. And you are not even an Alexander! Wake up man! Smell the coffee. My advice will not work for you. You ask that I bless you. How will my blessings reach you, when you have created this thick wall of desires? How will my advice reach your heart? It will not.
You have created a thick wall between me and you – a great wall of China is in between. This wall has to be broken. How can this wall be broken? This wall can be broken only by your understanding. So you have to understand and only then can I help you! You have written that you are thinking of changing your job. That may be a good thing. If lack of time is the problem, then I suggest that when you are traveling and if you have a driver, then while you are sitting in the back seat, do ‘Yog Nidra’, even though it is not good to do it while sitting. But still, in your case I will say that at least use this time to do the mantra chant, or to be aware of your breath. Urja dhyan works very well for overtly stressed people and that can be done in the morning or evening when the stomach is not full.
‘Yog Nidra’ will help you de-stress. It will help you to achieve a multi-level relaxation; muscular, neurological, emotional, mental and intellectual. And once this multi-level relaxation takes place, your sleep will be much deeper and you will have fewer dreams. When you sleep soundly, your body will begin to function in a much better way. All the important systems of the body – circulatory, respiratory, muscular, digestive, metabolic, glandular – all function well in sleep.

brain

You complain that your mind does not stop thinking when you wish it to, your mind does not listen to you

But ‘Yog Nidra,’ ‘Mantra Jap’ and ‘Urja’ will work only when you first correct your thinking. What do you want? Well, you can want things and you can enjoy things only if you have life. If life is not there……….! What? Nothing! Save this life first. And how can you do that? By bringing understanding and discipline into your life. Live with awareness, sleep at the right time, wake up at the right time and eat at the right time. Check your diet, eat fresh and eat vegetarian, do not eat fried and stale or processed food. Check your water intake, drink at least 8 to 10 glasses every day. People even forget to drink water. They drink tea, coffee and aerated drinks the whole day through. You will soon find things improving.

“Material things are dead and dead things cannot give you life or a meaning to your life”

Do not be blind, live your life with consciousness, live responsibly. Someone sitting in a room with shades on his eyes and thick curtains on the windows complains, ‘O Sun! Where are you? Bless me, give me your rays and give me your light.’ Can the sun do anything? The sun cannot come and draw your curtains. The sun cannot come and take off the shades from your eyes.
The person has to come out of the dark room. So do not seek blessings from me. My blessings are always there. The only thing is that you have blinded yourself and are thus unable to see. Once you take off these blinds; you will be in a better position to understand what I am saying. I say live your life, make your body healthy, do not let it become sick, do not bring diseases to your body and mind. This can be done by you, I cannot give you a schedule to follow. You have to live your life and I can only guide you and tell you what can bring balance to your life: it is awareness – live in awareness. Do not hope that things can bring you happiness, inert things are dead and dead things cannot give you life or a meaning to your life.

rose Have you ever seen a child who is poking a finger in its eye and crying. It will not stop poking the finger and yet it complains too. Have you ever seen a dog biting and scratching his body? Blood oozes out, but he does not stop. He has an itch, so he has to scratch, he cannot stop it and this gives him pain. What is the solution to the dog’s problem? The solution is that the dog’s skin should be treated. Medicine should be administered and ointment should be applied on the diseased area. Jaidev, your brain is itching and you are scratching. Your frustrations and questions are because of this itch and it can be corrected when you apply the ointment of wisdom. Wisdom will help you see the world with a different perspective, with a new vision.

You have to live your life and I can only guide you and tell you what can bring balance to your life

What do I want? (by deepak chopra)

What do I want?

—- Deepak Chopra

There is a reason why you were drawn to this. Perhaps your soul is extending an invitation to you — an invitation to get in touch with the deepest part of your self. Your deepest self, your essential being, is the source of all being — the field of pure consciousness that manifests as the infinite diversity of the universe. Power, freedom, and grace are attributes of this field. So too, are happiness, joy, and bliss.

Over the course of my career, thousands of people have come to me with various problems and challenges in their lives. My career began as a physician, and in the beginning most of the people whom I met had some form of illness such as heart disease or cancer. One day I was sitting with a patient who had heart disease and I happened to ask him, Why do you want to get better?” The look in his eyes told me, What kind of ridiculous question is that?” He told me, Doesn’t everybody want to get better when they’re sick?” Yes, I said,” but why do you want to get better?” He replied, If I get better, I can go back to work and make more money.” For some unknown reason, I persisted in asking him, why? Why do you want to make more money?” Apparently amused, he agreed to play the game and said, Because I want to send my son to a good university.” I asked him why he wanted to send his son to a good university. He said,” I want my son to get a good education so he can build a successful career.” I kept asking him the question? Why, why, why?.” In the end he answered, Because I want to be happy.”

Since then, I have played this game not only with sick patients wanting to get better, but with anyone who wants anything. You can try this yourself. Ask anyone what they want, and when they tell you what they want, keep asking why until you hear the ultimate answer: Because I want to be happy.” Happiness seems to be the goal of all other goals, and yet most people seek happiness in a roundabout way.

YESTERDAY’S FOOD

Once there was a very rich merchant, doing well in business. His wife  died long ago. He had one married son. His daughter-in- law was very wise and expert in house hold works. He was very much proud of her. Once he was having lunch at his verandah when a monk came to his door asking for some food. The merchant didn’t pay attention as he never used to give anything to such kind of people. The monk asked again and didn’t get any reply. As he was asking third time, the daughter-in- law replied politely – “Dear babaji, go to next door. My father-in-law is himself having yesterday’s food. He will not be able to give you anything.”

The monk understood and went ahead. But as the merchant heard these words spoken by the girl, he became very much angry with her. He was the richest person in the village. Why would he eat yesterday’s food? The girl must have become insane – he thought. As he was very much proud of her wise ness, so his anger was even greater. How did it come he didn’t realize this girl’s insanity? He summoned panchaayat (village court) and girl’s father that the girl was out of her mind and his son would break this marriage tie.

As people gathered in panchaayat, he told the event and asked for justice which was to untie the marriage in his point of view. The girl’s father was also present. He said-” I know my daughter is wise enough not to speak any meaningless words. But I am unable to understand its meaning. So I would request her to come and explain why she said so. It is not wise to give a decision without hearing her.”

The panchaayat agreed on it and the girl came to panchaayat. She said -” I know my father-in-law is the richest and most respected person in this village. What I wanted to say that he has done much good deeds in his previous lives that is why he got these wonderful blessings from GOD which he is enjoying now. In this way it is his yesterday’s earned food. But he is not doing any good deeds in this life, but only earning money for himself. I love him very much and want him to enjoy these blessings forever. I wanted to tell him this truth that is why I said so. I knew he would be angry and would like to get an explanation, and then maybe I will be able to tell him.”

The merchant understood the real meaning of the words and felt very much ashamed to bring his wise daughter-in- law in court. He apologized and started doing some actual good deeds for others.

It is general practice that people either enjoy their present blessings or they feel inferior while seeing others having more possessions in life. People always think why other has more wealth, why they are more intelligent. They forget that each and everything is our own earning. Whatever we earned, we are eating now. And whatever we are doing will come to us in future, be it material treasures or spiritual. In the same way people enjoy their current position. They laugh at others who don’t have intellect, money and other thing. They enjoy even their spiritual status, but they forget that if they will not work at present, their current treasure would be slowly spent…….We should work for tomorrow while we are enjoying present.

HAVE A GREAT DAY…..

With Best  Regards,
